Matcha Green Tea Donuts offer a unique and delightful twist on traditional donuts, infusing them with the vibrant flavor and health benefits of matcha powder. These baked donuts are light, fluffy, and have a beautiful green hue that makes them visually appealing and perfect for any occasion.

The subtle earthiness of matcha pairs wonderfully with a sweet glaze, creating a harmonious balance that will impress both matcha enthusiasts and those new to this flavorful ingredient. Baking rather than frying these donuts makes them a healthier option while still providing that satisfying donut texture.

With simple ingredients and an easy preparation process, these matcha donuts can be whipped up for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet treat to share with friends and family. They’re sure to become a favorite in your recipe collection!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon matcha green tea powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. This will prevent the donuts from sticking and make it easier to remove them once baked.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, matcha powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. This dry mixture forms the base of your donuts.
  3. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth, then pour this wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix, as this can make the donuts dense.
  4. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full. This will allow the donuts to rise without overflowing during baking.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly pressed and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  6. While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed for a thinner glaze.
  7. Once the donuts have cooled, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the glazed donuts back on the cooling rack to set before serving.

Extra Tips:

For an extra touch, consider adding a few drops of almond or coconut extract to the glaze for additional flavor. You can also sprinkle some chopped nuts or coconut flakes on top of the glaze for added texture and visual appeal.

These donuts can be stored in an airtight container for a few days, but they’re best enjoyed fresh.
